Skylight types we install

Four ways to bring daylight in

From $1,400

VELUX deck-mounted (FS/FCM)

Lowest profile, integrates flush with the roof. Fixed glass — no opening. Perfect for bedrooms and living rooms. Best with a new roof.

From $1,200

VELUX curb-mounted (QPF/QCM)

Sits on a custom 4-6" wood curb. Better for retrofitting on existing roofs. Slightly higher profile. Same warranty.

From $1,900

VELUX solar-powered venting (VSS)

Opens automatically for ventilation. Rain sensor closes it. Solar-powered motor + battery. Federal 30% tax credit qualifies.

From $650

VELUX Sun Tunnel (TGR)

Reflective tube delivers daylight to spaces a full skylight can't reach. Closets, hallways, interior bathrooms. ~half the cost of a skylight.

Installed pricing for typical 2x4 ft units. Larger sizes and special framing add cost.

Common questions

Skylights FAQ

Will skylights leak in Florida hurricanes?

Properly installed VELUX deck-mounted skylights in HVHZ zones use Miami-Dade NOA-approved units with laminated impact glass and engineered flashing kits. Lifetime warranty on the no-leak installation. The leak risk comes from cheaper brands, generic flashing, and contractors who don't follow VELUX's 10-step install protocol — we install to spec, every time.

Skylight vs Sun Tunnel — which should I get?

Skylights add light + view (you can see clouds, sky, stars). Sun Tunnels add light only — through a flexible reflective tube — but install in tight spaces (closets, hallways, interior baths) where a full skylight box wouldn't fit. Sun Tunnels are ~half the cost. We install both — depends on the room and your goal.

Solar-powered venting skylight — worth it?

For bathrooms and kitchens: yes. The VELUX VSS opens automatically (rain sensor closes it) for ventilation. Adds $400-$700 over fixed glass but qualifies for the federal 30% solar tax credit since the motor + battery are solar-powered. Net cost is often comparable to a fixed skylight.

When is the best time to install?

During a re-roof. The deck is exposed, flashing integrates with the new roof, and we save you the standalone mobilization fee. Standalone installs are doable but cost 30-40% more.
